The Philosophy Boxes Method is a new approach to P4C designed for students in KS1, 2 & 3: it is graphically stimulating, engaging, and fun. This download is also suitable for older students: but the format was designed with younger students in mind.
The topic of this Philosophy Boxes presentation is: 鈥淎rt, Aesthetics & The Nature of Beauty鈥
The aim of Philosophy Boxes is to bring philosophy and critical thinking into every subject at every level: we believe that any subject becomes philosophy when students are asked the right questions and when they think about a topic hard enough and on the deepest (most fundamental) level.
The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of 鈥榤ystery boxes鈥, when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities [that use 1 of 8 different formats].
The presentation has integrated AfL so that teachers can test knowledge at any point in the lesson. There are 10 different AfL slides to choose from.
The design is colourful, animated, fun and engaging: all activities require movement and teachers can decide whether students are expressing their ideas purely verbally or by using post-it notes.
The nature of the design is that it can be used for short sessions (5-10 minutes) or much longer sessions (up to 2 hours!) - it allows for classroom practitioners to be flexible and adaptable. It can, therefore, be used in lessons or as a tutor-time activity.

This bundle comprises the ideal resources for teaching about Buddhism at Middle School level.
The course specification is based around the British OCR exam specification for Religious Studies (teaching Buddhism) at GCSE level (i.e. 8th, 9th and 10th grade in the US system).
It is the product of many weeks work: I have aimed to make these resources such that every lesson would receive a good or outstanding rating if inspected.

Each session comprises a P4C lesson/session that can be used 2-3 times with the same group.
This contains the complete 20 sessions bundle designed for Primary School Teachers. It is tantamount to a complete cross-curricular P4C course and will be useful for countless hours of teaching across every subject. Many of the sessions are also great for tutor/form time.

This fun philosophy lesson focuses on aesthetics, art and the nature of beauty. Aestheticians ask questions like 鈥淲hat is a work of art?鈥, 鈥淲hat makes a work of art successful?鈥, 鈥淲hy do we find certain things beautiful?鈥, 鈥淗ow can things of very different categories be considered equally beautiful?鈥, 鈥淚s there a connection between art and morality?鈥, 鈥淐an art be a vehicle of truth?鈥, 鈥淎re aesthetic judgments objective statements or purely subjective expressions of personal attitudes?鈥, 鈥淐an aesthetic judgments be improved or trained?鈥

How should we measure the value of art?
Why do people create art?
What are the moral duties of an artist?

This download contains an editable 50+ slide PowerPoint featuring philosophical debates about art, aesthetics and design. It also contains a 鈥榬andomiser鈥 slide so that debate topics can be selected randomly.
This is a good tool to use for KS5 groups in order to encourage deeper, philosophical, thinking in relation to their own art work and the field of aesthetics and design more generally. It is also suitable for KS4 groups.
Debates take an 鈥榓gree or disagree鈥 format: students are asked to move from one side of the room to the other depending on their response to the statements that appear.
This format allows teachers to foster debates and discussions between students, it can be helpful to ask students to justify their reasons and use sensible arguments. Questions you might ask include:
鈥淲hat is wrong with the other position in your view?鈥,
鈥淲hy did you choose to stand where you鈥檙e standing?鈥,
鈥淲hy do you think people disagree so much about this question?鈥
It is best to encourage students to pick a side rather than float in the middle: but it can also be fun to allow students to change side as the debate progresses, so that students can try to persuade one another to move.
This is a great resource to use at the end of lessons if you have a few minutes left, it can be used as an entire lesson or revision session. It鈥檚 a fun way to introduce a course or to use as an ice-breaker with new classes, and can also be used by tutor groups as a whole-school initiative.

A professionally designed Christmas quiz for teachers of Art & Design to use with KS3-5 students, featuring 60 well-presented questions, and an answer sheet.

The quiz also includes a word-search (on screen) and a couple of anagram rounds.
Fifty of the questions are all Christmas-related and not connected to a specific school-subject: the final ten are subject specific and deal either with GCSE terminology of 鈥渇un facts鈥.
Differentiation can easily be achieved by changing quiz group sizes. The quiz is suitable for KS3-5.
Completing and peer-marking the 60-question quiz should take the best part of a 1-hour lesson.
